What you can search for

NEPAccess is a work in progress.

Our project to compile a complete set of NEPA documents is ongoing. Our initial efforts focused on Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), and these are currently the bulk of NEPAccess’s data repository.

Definitions

The bulk of our searchable records are drawn from the EPA’s Environmental Impact Statement database of all EISs received by that agency from 1987 to the present. This means that the EPA, and in turn NEPAccess, has a record indicating that an EIS (draft, final, or supplemental) was created as part of a NEPA process.

In many cases, NEPAccess has a downloadable digital document (in PDF/ZIP format) associated with a given record. See the table above.

You will see a “Download” button next to any record for which there is an associated downloadable digital document (PDF/ZIP).

How we collect documents

The NEPAccess team has gathered digital documents from various sources, associating them with the appropriate EPA records, and integrating them into NEPAccess’ data repository. If we find an EIS with no associated record from the EPA database, we create a brand-new record for that EIS in NEPAccess.

We have cast a wide net in looking for documents. In addition to the EPA database, we have combed agency websites, and other libraries and repositories.

We are also compiling Records of Decision (RODs) and any associated digital documents.

As time goes on, we will add Environmental Assessments (EAs), Categorical Exclusions (CEs), and other documents related to NEPA.
